IARC Postdoctoral Fellowships: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is inviting applications for its Postdoctoral Fellowships in Cancer Research for the 2026-2027 cycle. These fellowships provide early-career researchers from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cancer research at IARC’s headquarters in Lyon, France. The fellowship duration is two years, with a focus on cancer etiology, mechanisms, prevention strategies, and global cancer burden assessment.
IARC Postdoctoral Fellowships for Training in Cancer Research (2026-2027)
Designation: Postdoctoral Fellow
Research Area: Cancer Research, including:
- Cancer etiology and underlying mechanisms (infections, nutrition, lifestyle, environment, radiation, genetics)
- Strategies for cancer prevention (primary prevention, screening, implementation research)
- Global cancer burden assessment
- Carcinogenicity evaluations and preventive interventions
Location: International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), Lyon, France
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Open to candidates from LMICs only.
- Applicants must have obtained a PhD degree within five years of the application deadline or by the start of the fellowship.
- Candidates with an MD degree obtained within five years of the deadline or by the start of the fellowship may also apply but must have additional training such as an MPH and prior research experience with publications.
- Proficiency in English for scientific communication is required.
- Submission of two reference letters by the application deadline.
- Research proposal must align with the scientific activities of the chosen IARC branch and demonstrate feasibility.
- Candidates who have been at IARC as a postdoctoral scientist or doctoral student for more than six months are not eligible.
Job Description:
- Conduct research in alignment with IARC’s scientific priorities.
- Engage in multidisciplinary cancer research with international collaborators.
- Participate in scientific discussions, training programs, and skill development activities.
- Submit a final report at the end of the fellowship.
Fellowship Benefits:
- Monthly stipend of €2,950 (net).
- Travel costs for the awardee (and dependents in certain cases) covered.

- Eligibility for an IARC return grant of up to €10,000 during the second year to establish an independent research program upon returning to the candidate’s home LMIC.
