Immediate Postdoctoral Research Position: The laboratory of Dr. Shirin Ghods at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position in the field of Microbial Pathogenesis and Host Interaction. The position is available immediately, and we are looking for a highly motivated scientist with a solid background in microbiology and host-pathogen interaction to join an active and collaborative research team focusing on oral pathogens, especially Porphyromonas gingivalis.

🎓 Eligibility/Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology (focus on microbiology), or closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in the following techniques:
    • Bacterial culture, gene knockouts, plasmid design, and cloning
    • Biofilm/virulence assays, qPCR, ELISA
    • Protein analysis (SDS-PAGE, Western blot)
    • Mammalian cell & bacterial co-culture
    • Microscopy (fluorescence/confocal)
    • HPLC-based metabolite analysis (preferred)
  • At least one first-author publication in the last two years.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in a team.

🧪 Job Description

The successful candidate will:

  1. Conduct independent research on microbial pathogenesis and host response.
  2. Design and perform laboratory experiments using diverse molecular and cellular techniques.
  3. Analyze and interpret experimental data using appropriate statistical tools.
  4. Write scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
  5. Present research findings at conferences and support the mentorship of junior lab members.
