Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as biology, bioinformatics, plant physiology, genetics, or statistics.
  • Proficiency in English (meeting specific language requirements).
  • Fundamental understanding of the boreal forest ecosystem is desirable.
  • Experience with remote sensing methods is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Swedish and possession of a Swedish or international driving license is desirable.
  • Personal suitability will be highly considered.

Job Description:
The PhD candidate will work on addressing the challenges posed by climate change on Swedish forests, particularly focusing on the impact of drought on seedling survival and forest productivity. Research will be conducted in seed orchards and controlled greenhouse environments, utilizing advanced techniques such as transcriptomics, genomics, metabolomics, and remote sensing. The goal is to uncover the genetic mechanisms underlying drought tolerance in pine and spruce and to develop tools for assessing these traits.

The position is industry-based, with employment at Sveaskog, providing the candidate with practical work experience. The PhD student will be supervised by a team of experts from SLU, Umeå University, and Sveaskog.
