Junior Scientist (PhD Candidate): The EU-funded Doctoral Network EDUCADO (Exploring the Deep Universe by Computational Analysis of Data from Observations) is seeking applications for 11 junior scientist (PhD candidate) positions in the field of Galaxy Evolution and Big Data. The program involves collaboration between astronomers and computer scientists working on big data algorithms applied to the study of the formation and evolution of galaxies. Eligibility/Qualification:
- Applicants must hold the equivalent of a Master’s degree in astrophysics, computer science, or a related field by the start of their contract.
- Successful candidates may not have defended a doctoral thesis at the time of application.
- EU rules on research experience and mobility apply.
Job Description:
- The program aims to train PhD candidates in developing high-quality methods to address the formation of faint structures in the Universe.
- Research involves detecting unprecedented numbers of faint observable galaxies, studying morphology, populations, and distribution of dwarf galaxies, and comparing properties across different environments.
- Candidates will confront results with cosmological models, perform simulations, and contribute to the interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international training program of EDUCADO.
