M3C Postdoctoral Research Fellowships: McGill University is delighted to announce our 2024-2025 call for applications for the McGill Third Century (M3C) Postdoctoral Research Fellowships. Presently entering its third year, the M3C Fellowship Program reflects McGill’s commitment to recruit and train exceptional emerging scholars from all disciplines, identities, and lived experiences. The Program pursues two principal objectives:

  1. It contributes to the development of a pipeline of emerging scholars who are members of equity-deserving groups. Selected M3C fellows are promising prospective candidates for tenure-track positions at McGill or elsewhere following completion of the postdoctoral fellowship.
  2. It boosts research into pressing and complex social and scientific questions, such as: public health and health inequalities, Indigenous reconciliation and justice, civic participation and democratic engagement, data growth and privacy protection, trust in institutions, climate change and sustainability, migration and refugee displacement, income inequality, racial injustice, and food and housing insecurity.

The fellowship supports research into various pressing and complex social and scientific questions, including but not limited to public health and health inequalities, Indigenous reconciliation and justice, civic participation and democratic engagement, data growth and privacy protection, trust in institutions, climate change and sustainability, migration and refugee displacement, income inequality, racial injustice, and food and housing insecurity.

Location: McGill University, Montreal, Canada

Eligibility/Qualification: Eligible candidates will have completed all requirements for their Ph.D. on or before August 31, 2024.

Job Description:

  • M3C Fellows will work under the direct supervision of a McGill faculty member with expertise in the Fellow’s program of study.
  • Fellows are assigned two mentors: one internal McGill tenure-track or tenured faculty member (not the supervisor) and one external professional in the community or industry.
  • The mentorship will be tailored to the Fellow’s goals, interests, experiences, and preferences.
  • The fellowship term is one year, renewable once, contingent on the Fellow’s progress and recommendations from the faculty supervisor and mentors.
  • Fellows are awarded $70,000 annually (plus benefits) and a yearly research allowance of $15,000.
  • Workspace in the Faculty to which they are appointed will be provided to the extent possible.

How to Apply: Interested candidates are invited to apply by submitting the following via email to M3C@mcgill.ca:

  • A letter of intent setting out the proposed original research project and timeline, including the name of one or more proposed supervisors at McGill (Maximum 2 pages).
  • Resume.
  • A list of three names of referees who will be contacted if the candidacy is considered for the next phase in the selection process.

Last Date for Apply: Submissions must be received on or before July 12, 2024, to be considered for the 2024-2025 cycle. Selected candidates will be identified no later than August 15, 2024. Appointment as an M3C Fellow will begin in the fall or early winter terms of 2024-25, on a date mutually suitable to the selected candidate and the faculty supervisor.
