The program focuses on innovative research aimed at combating multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus aureus infections.

Research Area
The project is focused on the Characterisation and inhibition of enzymes involved in ribitol-phosphate modification of wall teichoic acid within the context of gram-positive bacterial pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance.

Eligibility/Qualification
- Educational Background: Undergraduate degree (MChem, MSc, or equivalent) in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
- Experience: Prior experience with molecular biology techniques, including gene expression and protein purification.
- Skills: Strong teamwork mentality, excellent written and spoken English.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Applicants must not already possess a doctoral degree at the time of appointment.
- Must not have resided in the UK for more than 12 months in the three years immediately preceding the appointment.
Description
This PhD project will enable candidates to study the enzymes responsible for wall teichoic acid biosynthesis, opening new avenues for the development of antibacterial agents. Candidates will develop in vitro assays to evaluate compounds’ inhibitory potency and engage in broad scientific training, enhancing their future career prospects in academia and industry.
