We are seeking a dedicated Master’s or PhD student to lead a research project focused on optimizing organic matter transformation during on-site composting. By characterizing and modulating the active microbiota, you will work towards increasing organic residue bioconversion efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas production. Eligibility/Qualification:
- Admission to Université de Montreal’s Department of Biological Sciences under the supervision of Joan Laur
- Funding for 2 years for M.Sc. students ($18.5k/year) and 4 years for PhD students ($23k/year)
- Project start date: January 2024
- All applications will be considered, and previous experience in microbiology, biotechnology, molecular biology, and/or biochemistry is an asset.

As a Master’s or PhD student in applied environmental microbiology, you will:
- Lead a research project focused on optimizing organic matter transformation during on-site composting.
- Characterize and modulate the active microbiota to increase bioconversion efficiency of organic residues.
- Contribute to reducing greenhouse gas production in the composting process.
- Collaborate with a large interdisciplinary project team and numerous partners in the field.
