The Matsumae International Foundation (MIF) is offering a prestigious Research Fellowship Program for 2026 to support non-Japanese researchers in pursuing innovative research projects in Japan. Eligibility/Qualification

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a non-Japanese national.
  • Hold a Ph.D. (Doctoral degree) at the time of application.
  • Be 45 years old or younger (born in or after 1980).
  • Have sufficient proficiency in English or Japanese.
  • Have obtained prior acceptance from a host institution in Japan.
  • Should not have past or current experiences of staying in Japan (excluding short-term visits for sightseeing or conferences).
  • Must have an occupation in their home country and commit to returning after the fellowship.

Job Description

The selected candidates will:

  • Conduct research in their field at a host institution in Japan.
  • Benefit from financial support, including a monthly allowance of JPY 220,000, round-trip airfare, and overseas travel insurance.
  • Participate in a study tour organized by the MIF to gain deeper insights into Japan’s culture and research environment.

Applications will be accepted from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2025 (Japan Standard Time). Applications sent outside this period will not be considered.
