MolCal PhD Scholarship in Chemistry: Barocaloric Organic Ionic Plastic Crystals and Prototype Development

Location: The University of Edinburgh, with secondments at Sunamp Ltd. in MacMerry (United Kingdom) and CSIC in Zaragoza (Spain)

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or related fields
  • Strong background in materials characterization or molecular simulation
  • Must not already hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment
  • Must comply with the mobility rule, having not resided or carried out main activity in the host country for more than 12 months in the 3 years before recruitment

Job Description: The selected Doctoral Candidate will investigate the structural and thermal origins of barocaloric effects in solid-state materials. This will involve utilizing high-pressure diffraction and calorimetry, as well as molecular dynamics simulations and machine learning models to enhance the synthesis of caloric materials. The role also includes secondments with industry partners for high-pressure calorimetry, offering a valuable opportunity to engage with real-world applications of the research.
