The Max Planck Society (MPG) in Germany and the Weizmann Institute of Science (WIS) in Israel invite talented researchers to apply for their joint postdoctoral program. This four-year opportunity supports interdisciplinary research, international scientific collaboration, and access to the expertise and facilities of two world-renowned institutions.

Designation

Position: Joint Postdoctoral Fellow

Duration: Four years, with two years spent at MPG and two years at WIS. The division of time may be adjusted where scientifically justified.

Research Area

The program supports cutting-edge and interdisciplinary research conducted in collaboration with scientists at MPG and WIS. Applicants should identify an appropriate research project and hosts at both institutions.

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Applicants must begin the program within four years of completing their PhD or MD.
  • For applicants holding both a PhD and an MD, eligibility is calculated from the degree completed first.
  • Current WIS postdoctoral researchers may apply but must commence the program before the end of their first year at WIS.
  • Admission to the program is contingent upon submission of the applicant’s PhD thesis.
  • Applicants cannot apply in collaboration with their PhD advisor.

Job Description

Selected fellows will conduct advanced research at MPG and WIS, working with leading scientists and benefiting from the facilities, expertise, and research networks of both institutions. Fellows will undertake in-depth investigation and experimentation, contribute significant findings to their fields, exchange ideas across disciplines, and participate in conferences, workshops, and seminars.

Salary, Fellowship, and Benefits

  • At MPG, positions follow German regulations and experience-based classifications. The annual taxable salary is €67,311 at level 2 or €72,800 at level 3.
  • MPG benefits include health insurance, nursing care insurance, vacation days, pension insurance, and unemployment insurance.
  • At WIS, fellows receive an annual tax-exempt fellowship of 212,088 NIS at level 2 or 220,920 NIS at level 3.
  • WIS benefits include full family health insurance, a nursing care subsidy, vacation days, relocation assistance, and subsidized housing.
  • Relocation support is available up to twice during the program, with at least 18 months between relocations. Support is €1,500 per relocation for a single fellow and €3,000 for a fellow relocating with a spouse or family.
  • Each fellow receives €3,000 per year for conferences, workshops, and seminars.
  • Accompanying spouses may be eligible for work permits in Israel and Germany.
