MSc/PhD Position in CAMPEP: The X-ray Cancer Imaging and Therapy Experimental (XCITE) lab at the University of Victoria’s Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking applications for an MSc or PhD student to join their CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics program. This opportunity is specifically open to candidates from underrepresented groups, such as Indigenous applicants, women, people of color, etc. The successful applicant will engage in cutting-edge research in X-ray cancer imaging and therapy, focusing on the development of radiation sources and dosimeters for FLASH and spatially-fractionated radiotherapy (SFRT). Eligibility/Qualification:

  • MSc applicants: Equivalent of an Honours Physics BSc degree.
  • PhD applicants: Hold an MSc degree from a CAMPEP-accredited medical physics program.
  • Candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, research aptitude, motivation for high-quality research, good communication and writing skills, and a willingness to collaborate in a team.

Job Description: The successful candidate will be involved in research involving the development of radiation sources and dosimeters for FLASH and spatially-fractionated radiotherapy. This will include Monte Carlo simulations and experimental work at the University of Victoria and potentially at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator laboratory in Vancouver. The student will work alongside two other PhD students and two undergraduate students, ensuring a supportive research environment.
