OPEN PhD Position: A four-year PhD position is available in Prague, Czech Republic, starting from October 1, 2024. The project aims to investigate the convergent evolution of molecular phenotypes and their impact on immune responses in birds. The successful candidate will be involved in identifying convergent evolution in avian inflammatory genes, testing functional differences between selected protein variants, and exploring the effects of molecular convergence on immune responses to microbial communities.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Immunology, Genetics)
- Strong background in molecular biology and bioinformatics
- Experience in immune gene sequence data analysis and positive selection tests
- Proficiency in protein structure clustering and functional analysis
- Familiarity with in vitro techniques, including differential gene expression analysis
Job Description: The successful candidate will:
- Generate and analyze immune gene sequence data (target gene sequencing)
- Conduct tests of positive selection based on sequence alignments (dN/dS approach)
- Perform clustering of protein structures based on physicochemical properties
- Engage in the analysis of recombinant protein function (in vitro)
- Conduct differential gene expression analysis (RNA-seq, RT-qPCR)
The focus of the research will be on birds hosting diversified microbial communities, offering new opportunities for interdisciplinary research in evolutionary immunology.
