Postdoctoral Position: Wireless Neuromodulation, Germany

Postdoctoral Researcher - Germany

ostdoctoral Position: Wireless Neuromodulation: Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is seeking a highly qualified Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of wireless neuromodulation. The position is available in the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy, specifically in the biointerfaces lab under the supervision of Prof. Gregurec. This interdisciplinary lab focuses on the development of nanoscale magnetic neural interfaces for wireless actuation and inhibition of deep brain neurons.

Designation: Postdoctoral Researcher

Research Area: Biological or Biomedical Engineering (Neural Engineering), Life Science, Neuroscience, or related field

Location: Erlangen, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • PhD in Biological or Biomedical Engineering (Neural Engineering), Life Science, Neuroscience, or related field
  • Experience in fields relevant to neuromodulation
  • Proficiency in neurophysiology techniques (in vitro and in vivo, rodents)
  • Proficiency in handling primary neurons (extraction, dissociation, culturing, etc.) and cell lines
  • Experience with transduction and transfection of cell lines and primary neurons
  • Minimal molecular biology skills (PCR, Viral vector packaging in S2 laboratory)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate in a diverse, multi-disciplinary environment
  • Ability to analyze data, conduct experiments autonomously, and supervise students
  • Track record of authorship
  • Basic knowledge in programming (MATLAB, Python, Mathematica, R, etc.)
  • Social personality that integrates well into an international team

Job Description: The postdoctoral researcher will be involved in the BRAINSTORM project, which aims to develop nanoscale magnetic neural interfaces for wireless actuation and inhibition of deep brain neurons. The candidate will explore strategies for integrating viral vectors and nanomaterials to oversensitize brain neurons with thermal and mechanical ion channels. Additionally, the researcher will test the neuromodulatory functionality of nanotransducers using immunohistochemical analyses and Calcium imaging. Collaboration with other institutions and partners will be essential in the optimization of multifunctional nanomaterials for thermal and mechanical neuromodulation.
