Postdoctoral Position in UK United Kingdom

PDRA in Electron Microscopy: Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron science facility, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA) in electron microscopy to join their team of expert electron microscopists at ePSIC. This 1-year fixed-term position is in collaboration with the Departments of Materials and Chemistry at the University of Oxford and is funded by the Faraday Institute’s SOLBAT project.

PDRA in Electron Microscopy of Battery Materials

Designation

Post-Doctoral Research Associate (PDRA)

Research Area

The successful candidate will apply cutting-edge transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques to solve fundamental materials science problems in next-generation battery materials. This will involve using aberration-corrected TEM/STEM imaging, 4DSTEM, EELS, and EDX, as well as cryogenic and liquid-cell techniques, to understand the structural and chemical properties of battery materials at the atomic scale.

Location

Diamond Light Source, Harwell Science and Innovation Campus, Oxfordshire, UK

Eligibility/Qualification

  • Appropriate Science Degree or equivalent
  • Appropriate PhD
  • Proven relevant experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in:

  • Applying cutting-edge TEM techniques to the study of battery materials or other relevant systems, with an excellent publication record
  • Programming for data analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB)
  • Working independently and collaborating closely with a diverse range of scientists
  • FIB lift-out sample preparation methods

Job Description

  • Report to the project supervisors and contribute to the ongoing research within the groups at ePSIC and the University of Oxford
  • Design and carry out experiments to fulfill the aims of the research proposal
  • Attend scientific meetings and present your research
  • Participate in internal scientific and administrative meetings with scientific collaborators
