Percy PhD Award: Fully Funded PhD Studentship to Research Farm Tenancies in the North East of England

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Minimum 2:1 Honours degree or international equivalent in a subject relevant to the proposed PhD project (e.g., social science background, agriculture, or food with social science components)
  • IELTS score of 6.5 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills for non-English first language applicants
  • Applicants with knowledge of the UK are desirable
  • The studentship covers fees at the Home rate for UK and EU applicants with pre-settled/settled status and who meet the residency criteria. International applicants are welcome, but they will be required to cover the difference between Home and International fees and may need ATAS clearance certificate for visa and program enrollment.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will conduct in-depth research into the challenges faced by farm tenants as a consequence of changing land use in the North East of England. The research will involve interviewing farm tenants, estate owners, and experts dealing with the legal framework of tenancies to gain insights into restrictive covenants and other legal matters linked to tenancies. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the understanding of rural development in the UK.
