Ph.D.:Hybrid Distributed Parameter Systems, Centre de Recherche en Informatique, France

Postdoc in France

Ph.D.:Hybrid Distributed Parameter Systems: The Centre de Recherche en Informatique, Signal, et Automatique de Lille (CRIStAL) invites applications for a Ph.D. scholarship to develop novel control and estimation strategies for Hybrid Distributed Parameter Systems (DPS). This research will focus on prescribed-time stabilization and estimation for complex physical systems such as traffic flow, hydraulic networks, and biological systems, with potential applications in real-world traffic control systems.

Ph.D. Scholarship 2025: Prescribed-Time Control for Hybrid Distributed Parameter Systems

Designation:
Ph.D. Candidate in Applied Mathematics and Control Theory

Research Area:
Distributed Parameter Systems (DPS), Hybrid Systems, Prescribed-Time Control, Traffic Flow Control, Control Theory, Partial Differential Equations (PDEs)

Location:
Lille, France
Centre de Recherche en Informatique, Signal, et Automatique de Lille (CRIStAL) UMR CNRS 9189

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A solid background in applied mathematics and control theory.
  • Strong proficiency in scientific programming (Python, MATLAB).
  • Very good command of English.
  • A passion for research and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field such as Applied Mathematics, Control Theory, Engineering, or a similar discipline.

Job Description:
The candidate will conduct research to develop novel controllers and observers for DPS, specifically targeting prescribed-time stability and estimation. This includes:

  • Investigating hybrid phenomena such as switching behavior, impulsive dynamics, and digital effects in DPS.
  • Designing and analyzing control strategies for real-world traffic flow models, including ramp metering and variable speed limits.
  • Developing frameworks for hybrid DPS that integrate digital systems, sampled-data, event-triggered control, and quantization.
  • Writing technical reports, disseminating research through presentations at international conferences, and publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Regularly reporting progress through annual evaluations.

How to Apply:
Please submit the following documents in a single PDF file to Nicolas Espitia (nicolas.espitia-hoyos@univ-lille.fr):

  • Detailed CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Transcripts of grades
  • Contact details for one or two references

Application Deadline:
April 16, 2025

Starting Date:
Between October and December 2025
