Ph.D. Opportunity in Environmental Biogeochemistry: The University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a Ph.D. position in Environmental Biogeochemistry. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research team within the Niwot Ridge Long-term Ecological Research (LTER) Program, focusing on the effects of climate change on high-elevation alpine ecosystems. This fully-funded Ph.D. opportunity offers interdisciplinary training in collaboration with leading departments and research institutes.
Designation
Ph.D. Student
Research Area
Environmental Biogeochemistry, Carbon and Nitrogen Cycling, Climate Change, Ecosystem Processes
Location
University of Colorado, Boulder, USA
Eligibility/Qualification
- Education: Applicants must hold a B.A. or B.S. in ecology, biology, environmental science, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with an M.A. or M.S. degree.
- Experience: Prior research experience is encouraged but not mandatory.
- Fieldwork Requirements: Applicants should be prepared for high-elevation fieldwork in alpine conditions, involving hiking and carrying equipment.
Job Description
The Ph.D. student will develop a project examining key biogeochemical processes, including carbon and nitrogen cycling, in alpine ecosystems under warming conditions. The project may include fieldwork, laboratory analyses, and modeling. The student will work closely with Dr. Eve-Lyn Hinckley (CU Boulder) and Dr. Daniela Cusack (Colorado State University) and collaborate with the Niwot Ridge LTER research community. Summer field research in 2025 is encouraged for training and project exposure before the formal start of the program in Fall 2025.
What We Offer
- Funding: A combination of teaching and research assistantships for four years.
- Collaborative Environment: Work as part of the Niwot Ridge LTER community, the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, and the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at CU Boulder.
How to Apply
- Contact: Interested candidates should reach out to Dr. Eve-Lyn Hinckley (eve.hinckley@colorado.edu) and Dr. Daniela Cusack (daniela.cusack@colostate.edu) with a short statement of research interests, a CV, and a writing sample.
- Formal Application: Apply to the Ph.D. program via the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at CU Boulder. For more details, visit CU Boulder Graduate Admissions.
Commitment to Diversity
Applications from groups historically excluded from STEM fields and graduate programs are strongly encouraged.
