ERC Funded Postdoctoral Positions, Charles University, Czech Republic

Ph.D. Position in Modular-Topology: The Czech Technical University in Prague announces a fully funded Ph.D. position in modular-topology optimization within the Engineering and Mathematics research fields. This interdisciplinary opportunity is part of the EU-funded ROBOPROX project, focusing on applying mathematical programming techniques to optimize modular structures, mechanisms, and materials.

Ph.D. Position in Modular-Topology Optimization of Compliant Structures, Mechanisms, and Materials

Designation: Ph.D. Position (Reference: 02-PhD-Zeman)

Research Area: Engineering » Aerospace engineering, Civil engineering, Mechanical engineering, Simulation engineering, Materials engineering, Mathematics » Applied mathematics, Computational mathematics, Physics » Computational physics

Location: Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague, Thákurova 7, Prague 6, Czech Republic, Postal Code: 166 29

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in a field related to the opening
  • Strong background in structural or solid mechanics, finite element method, numerical linear algebra, structural optimization, or mathematical optimization
  • Code development skills, preferably in MATLAB, Python, Julia, C++, or a related programming language
  • Professional proficiency in spoken/written English

Job Description: The Ph.D. project involves applying and developing mathematical programming techniques for optimal design in modular structures, mechanisms, or (meta-)materials. The research will contribute to closing the gap in computationally efficient algorithms for modular design, focusing on the challenges posed by discrete and continuous features. The candidate will work on a three-step sequential framework, addressing material distribution, modularization, and topology optimization.

How to Apply: Interested candidates should submit their applications using Ph.D. Position ID 02-PhD-Zeman via the following link: Application Form.

The application package must include:

  1. Motivation letter (up to two pages)
  2. Academic curriculum vitae
  3. Contact details for two to three referees
  4. Transcript of Master’s (required) and Bachelor’s (recommended) grades
  5. Copy or link to M.Sc. thesis
  6. Date of M.Sc. degree award or expected thesis defense date

For full consideration, complete applications must be received by 30 April 2024.

Last Date for Apply: The deadline for application submissions is 30 April 2024 – 23:45 (Europe/Prague).

Selection Process: Review of applications will begin immediately and continue no later than 14 May 2024. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to up to two rounds of interviews.
