Ph.D. Position in Solid-State Battery: The Chair of Electrochemistry at the University of Bayreuth, in collaboration with the Bavarian Center for Battery Technology (BayBatt), is offering a fully funded Ph.D. position starting January 1, 2026. Eligibility / Qualification

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience with material handling and battery assembly in inert atmospheres (e.g., Schlenk line, glovebox).
  • Proficiency in electrochemical techniques such as potentiostatic or galvanostatic methods.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a structured environment.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with AC voltammetry or impedance spectroscopy.
  • Experience in Raman spectroscopy for solid samples.
  • German language proficiency (advantageous but not mandatory).
  • Willingness to participate in teaching and supervision of undergraduate students.

Job Description

The selected Ph.D. candidate will:

  • Investigate how impurities in solid electrolytes affect ion transport and overall solid-state battery performance.
  • Engage in experimental synthesis, electrochemical characterization, and data analysis.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners within a larger research consortium.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences (e.g., MRS, ACS, GRC).
  • Participate in training programs such as BayNAT for professional and personal development.
