Ph.D./Postdoctoral Researcher: The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is offering two fully funded positions for Ph.D. candidates, Postdoctoral Researchers, or Research Assistants in the field of Networked Control Systems. Successful candidates will work within the Networked Control Systems (NetCoS) Group under the supervision of Professor Apostolos I. Rikos. This research program is focused on developing advanced algorithms in distributed optimization, machine learning, and privacy-preserving techniques to drive innovation in interconnected systems, including smart grids, IoT, and autonomous systems.

Eligibility/Qualification
Candidates should hold a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. Applicants should demonstrate:
- Strong background in mathematics, particularly in linear algebra, calculus, probability, and statistics.
- Proficiency in control theory, programming, and English.
- Familiarity with optimization techniques, machine learning, and privacy-preserving methods is advantageous.
- A proven track record of publications in high-quality journals or conferences is a plus.
English proficiency equivalent to Hong Kong or English-speaking countries’ requirements is necessary.
Job Description
The appointed Ph.D., Postdoctoral, or Research Assistant will:
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research focusing on developing secure, scalable, and energy-efficient algorithms for networked control systems.
- Explore novel applications in intelligent transportation, flexible factory automation, cooperative robotics, and AI decision-support systems.
- Collaborate with renowned institutions and experts in distributed optimization and networked control systems under the guidance of Professor Apostolos I. Rikos, whose experience spans esteemed institutions like KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Boston University, and KIOS Research and Innovation Center.

Compensation: Ph.D. students will receive full scholarships, with a stipend of approximately RMB 15,000 per month.
