Eligibility / Qualification

Required Background:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Atmospheric Science/Chemistry, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in programming languages such as Python or MATLAB
  • Familiarity with Linux command-line environments
  • Coursework or prior research in environmental or atmospheric modeling
  • Experience with chemical transport models (e.g., GEOS-Chem, CMAQ) is desirable but not mandatory

Job Description / Research Work

Selected Ph.D. scholars will:

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research on air quality and wildfire smoke modeling
  • Develop and enhance forecasting frameworks for atmospheric processes
  • Work with large-scale environmental datasets using computational tools and machine learning
  • Contribute to publications and conference presentations
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team within WSU’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Department
