Ph.D. Student Position in Transportation : Texas Tech University’s Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering invites applications for a fully funded Ph.D. student position in Transportation (Pavement) Engineering. The successful candidate will engage in interdisciplinary research related to flexible pavement engineering under the guidance of Dr. Pawel Polaczyk, an experienced practitioner and Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering.

Scholarship Description:

Ph.D. Student Position in Transportation (Pavement) Engineering

The selected candidate will be actively involved in research focused on flexible pavement engineering. Dr. Polaczyk’s expertise in asphalt, asphalt mixtures, pavement design, testing and evaluation, and pavement maintenance will provide a comprehensive learning and research experience.

Eligibility:

  • Required Qualifications:
    • B.Sc. in Civil Engineering or closely related areas
    • Self-motivated
    • Proficiency in English
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • M.Sc. in Civil Engineering or closely related areas
    • Experience in flexible pavement (asphalt mixture) research
    • Experience with industry or government (Flexible Pavements)
  • Advantageous Qualifications:
    • Programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, etc.)
    • Numerical simulation skills (e.g., ABAQUS, etc.)
    • Writing and presenting research work

About the Advisor: Dr. Pawel Polaczyk brings over 15 years of experience in transportation and pavement engineering, having worked in academia, industry, and government agencies. His research is supported by numerous projects from entities such as the US Department of Energy (DOE), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT).
