Research Area

  • Peptide-based materials and their applications in biomaterials, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Asymmetric catalysis focusing on chiral amplification and self-replication under prebiotic conditions.
  • The origins of molecular chirality and prebiotic chemistry.

Location

Various Dutch Universities and the Feringa Lab.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • For PhD Position: Candidates with a background in organic synthesis, stereochemistry, or supramolecular chemistry.
  • For Postdoctoral Researcher: A skilled and motivated researcher with expertise in asymmetric catalysis and chirality.

Description

The PhD position focuses on the synthesis and functionalization of peptide-based amphiphiles, exploring their applications as bio-based, biodegradable materials. The project aims to establish a versatile materials platform leveraging automated peptide synthesis and purification methods. Collaborative experimental work within a dynamic environment will be emphasized.

The Postdoc Researcher will examine the origins of chirality through asymmetric autocatalysis, engaging in experiments that induce chiral amplification/self-replication. This position encourages collaboration with PhD students on related research topics.

Multiple PhD positions within the EVOLVE consortium aim to explore fundamental questions in chemical evolution, specifically related to molecular chirality and its origins.
