PhD and Postdoc Positions: The University of Geneva invites applications for PhD and postdoc positions in Nina Kazanina’s research group. The group focuses on the neurobiological mechanisms of compositional computation in syntax and semantics, as well as factual and/or relational memory. Successful candidates will align their research with these themes, utilizing experimental methods such as EEG, MEG, intracranial recordings, or animal physiology.

Research Area: Neurobiological mechanisms of compositional computation and memory

Location: University of Geneva, Department of Basic Neuroscience

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Background in cognitive, basic, or computational neuroscience, psychology, (computational or psycho-)linguistics, electrical engineering, or a related field
  • Broad understanding of linguistics and the neurobiology of language/memory
  • Creative ideas, ambition, and a strong interdisciplinary approach
  • Excellent data processing and analysis skills (Python, R, Matlab)
  • Experience with electrophysiological recordings and analysis (scalp or intracranial EEG, MEG)
  • Proficient writing skills; prior MEG experience is a plus
  • Ability and desire for teamwork and knowledge-sharing
  • Knowledge (or intention to learn) French is an asset

Job Description:

  • Conduct research aligned with the group’s themes using experimental methods
  • Utilize EEG, MEG, intracranial recordings, or animal physiology in research
  • Demonstrate interdisciplinary approach and creativity in research
  • Engage in data processing and analysis using Python, R, Matlab
  • Contribute to teamwork and knowledge-sharing
  • PhD positions are full-time (100% FTE) for 4 years, and postdoc positions are full-time for 2 years, subject to successful progress reviews
  • Competitive salary in line with the University of Geneva pay scales
  • Working language is English; knowledge (or intention to learn) French is an asset
  • Starting date approximately February 2024
