Designation: PhD Scholarship Researcher

Research Area: The scholarship is focused on the development of new steroidal MRAs to treat heart failure more effectively while minimizing the dangerous side effects of existing medications. The research targets the heart’s mineralocorticoid receptor, a critical driver of heart failure progression.

Location: Ferrier Research Institute, Gracefield Research Centre, Wellington, New Zealand

Eligibility/Qualification:
The applicant must be eligible for admission to the PhD program at Victoria University of Wellington with a GPA of 7.5 or greater (on a 9 point scale), First Class Honours, or Master’s grade. Proficiency in English is essential. International candidates must reside in New Zealand for the duration of the project and study under a New Zealand student visa.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be involved in compound design using molecular modeling software, multi-step chemical syntheses of target compounds, purification, and characterization by NMR and MS spectroscopy, HPLC analysis, and more. The candidate must be in New Zealand or able to travel to New Zealand to carry out the study.
