Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or related field.
- Proficient in English with good communication skills.
- Basic programming skills in Python, Bash, or R.
- Enthusiastic, curious, and open-minded individual.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Prior experience in microbiology research and environmental metagenomics is advantageous.
Job Description: As a PhD candidate, you will:
- Investigate the influence of mobile genetic elements on the evolution of Asgard archaea.
- Develop innovative computational methods for extracting viral genomes from metagenomic datasets.
- Create novel approaches to associate viruses with their hosts.
- Establish precise and reproducible methods for annotating viral genomes.
- Collaborate with a diverse research team and contribute to teaching activities (up to 10% of working time).

We Offer:
- Employment for 0.8 (5-year contract) – 1.0 FTE (4-year contract).
- Gross starting salary of €2,770 per month, increasing to €3,539 in the fourth year (salary scale P).
