Eligibility/Qualification

  • A strong background in microbiology, molecular genetics, microscopy, and/or biochemistry.
  • Experience working with cyanobacteria is preferable.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills; willing to acquire proficiency in Dutch.
  • A critical mindset and ability to think creatively.

Description

The PhD project aims to develop stable synthetic consortia between cyanobacteria and actinomycetes to produce bioactive compounds sustainably. Candidates will design and maintain synthetic microbial consortia, investigate biological mechanisms underlying bacterial symbiosis, and characterize the properties of these synthetic systems using microbiological and molecular approaches. Opportunities for teaching and public engagement activities will also be available.
