PhD Candidate/Research Associate: The Institute of Microstructure Technology (IMT) at KIT invites applications for a unique PhD opportunity focused on enhancing magnetic resonance imaging techniques. Candidates will develop innovative NMR/MRI probe heads optimized for detecting stable rare nuclides (¹³C and ²H) to improve cancer diagnostics through advanced imaging technology.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Experimental Physics, Materials Science, or related disciplines
  • Knowledge and experience in magnetic resonance, cryogenic and vacuum technology, and design and construction of scientific instruments are advantageous

Job Description:

  • Develop and optimize a new type of NMR/MRI probe head for detecting rare nuclides (¹³C and ²H)
  • Design primary electronic structures for minimal noise through cryogenic cooling
  • Engage in electronic and mechanical design, construction, and testing of prototypes
  • Supervise master’s and semester thesis projects
  • Publish findings in international journals and present at international conferences
  • This position allows the opportunity to pursue a doctorate alongside research work
