PhD Candidates in the ATLAS Group at Nikhef,Radboud University, Netherlands

Postdoc in Netherlands

PhD Candidates in the ATLAS Group: Nikhef, the national institute for subatomic physics in the Netherlands, is inviting applications for two PhD positions within the prestigious ATLAS group. This opportunity is centered on advanced research into the Higgs boson, exploring its potential and contributing to groundbreaking discoveries in particle physics.

Designation

PhD Candidates (2 Positions)

Research Area

  • Two-Higgs production research
  • Application of machine learning in particle physics
  • Higgs boson potential and associated decay signatures

Location

  • Primary: Amsterdam (for Position 1)
  • Primary: Nijmegen (for Position 2)
  • PhD degree granted by Radboud University

Eligibility/Qualification

  • (Almost) completed Master’s degree in high-energy physics or a closely related field.
  • Strong interest in data analysis and good software skills (Python, C++, ROOT).
  • Research experience in experimental particle physics preferred.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms is desirable but not required.

Job Description

  • Position 1: Focus on the research of two-Higgs production into a pair of b-quark jets and vector bosons, emphasizing multi-object triggers for event selection. Co-supervised by prof. dr. Pamela Ferrari, dr. Flavia de Almeida Dias, and prof. dr. Nicolo de Groot.
  • Position 2: Centered on machine learning-based end-to-end optimization of selection criteria for two-Higgs decay signatures, using surrogate models for tractability. Co-supervised by dr. Sascha Caron and prof. dr. Wouter Verkerke.

Candidates will engage in an extensive training program, participate in teaching, and may have the opportunity for extended stays at CERN, totaling up to 1 year.

How to Apply

  • Applications must be submitted by filling in the designated template and uploading the following documents:
  • Short cover letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Email addresses of at least two referees willing to provide recommendations

Interested candidates should specify their preferred position(s) in the cover letter.

Last Date for Apply
