PhD Fellowship: From Physiology to Fisheries: Aarhus University is offering a PhD fellowship to understand the biological limits of live storage of Norway lobsters (Nephrops norvegicus) within the context of the NORCREEL project. This research aims to enhance sustainable practices in lobster fisheries through a detailed investigation of lobster physiology, behavior, and environmental tolerance.
Designation:
PhD Fellow
| Details | Information |

| Eligibility/Qualification | MSc degree in biology, marine biology, animal physiology, or related field |
| Application Deadline | February 1, 2026, at 23:59 CET |
Research Area:
The research focuses on the physiological and behavioral responses of lobsters to stress during capture, holding, and transport. It assesses how different environmental conditions and handling strategies affect their survival and well-being.
Location:
Aarhus University, Department of Biology
Ny Munkegade 116
8000 Aarhus C, Denmark
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Must hold a relevant MSc degree in biology, marine biology, zoophysiology, animal physiology, or a related field, completed before the application deadline.
- Strong background in animal or marine physiology, experimental biology, or fisheries biology.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lab setting.
- Experience with live animals and physiological or behavioral measurements is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
Description:
The PhD project will involve experimental work in laboratory settings and collaboration with fisheries partners. Applicants will study the capacity of lobsters to survive prolonged storage and assess physiological and behavioral indicators of animal condition. The ultimate goal is to define biological limits and practical criteria for safe live storage and transport of lobsters, contributing to sustainable fisheries.
