Research Area

The research aims to investigate the pharmacokinetics and biodistribution of bacteriophages and their interactions with the mammalian immune system, specifically focusing on liver scavenger cells and their role in phage clearance.

Location

Tromsø, Norway, at the Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway.

Eligibility/Qualification

  • A Master’s degree in life sciences or an equivalent education (applications are also accepted from those near completion).
  • Strong background in medical biology, microbiology, immunology, or related areas.
  • Documentation of fluency in English, and preferably proficiency in Norwegian, Swedish, or Danish (minimum level A2).
  • Experience with research animals, microbiology, cell culturing, and molecular biological techniques is highly beneficial.

Description

The PhD project will focus on understanding how liver scavenger cells, such as Kupffer cells and liver sinusoidal endothelial cells, contribute to the clearance of bacteriophages from the bloodstream. Given the growing global threat of antimicrobial resistance, this research is vital for developing safe and effective phage therapies. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in investigating these cellular mechanisms and will have opportunities to collaborate with researchers, as well as supervise master and bachelor students.

How to Apply

Interested candidates must submit the following documents through Jobbnorge by the application deadline:

  • Cover letter outlining motivation and research interests
  • Comprehensive CV detailing education and experience
  • Copies of diploma for bachelor’s and master’s degrees
  • Official transcripts for both degrees
  • English proficiency documentation
  • References with contact information
