Collaborative pre-doctoral research projects are hosted within specialized ICGEB Component laboratories. While specific project fields vary by laboratory, ICGEB broadly focuses on:

Eligibility & Qualifications
- Nationality: Applicants must be nationals of an ICGEB Member State. Note: You cannot apply for a fellowship in your country of origin unless you are actively working abroad at the time of application.
- Degree Requirements:
- Trieste & Cape Town: Must hold a BSc (Honours) degree.
- New Delhi: Must hold an MSc degree.
- Language Proficiency: A good working knowledge of English is required. Candidates must provide a proficiency certificate (TOEFL, Cambridge, or equivalent) unless English was the sole medium of instruction (which must be proven by an official university certificate).
Job Description & Expectations
Selected fellows will engage in short-term, collaborative pre-doctoral research at their chosen ICGEB facility.
- Core Responsibilities: Carry out experimental work toward your PhD thesis under the guidance of an assigned ICGEB Principal Investigator (PI).
- Technique Acquisition: Acquire advanced research techniques and bring technical capacity back to your home country.
- Limitations: ICGEB provides no financial provision or administrative support for family members; the fellowship is strictly focused on individual research support.
How to Apply (New Procedure)
Applications must be submitted online in two distinct sequential phases via the ICGEB Service Gateway:
- Phase 1: Fellowship Expression of Interest (1 July – 14 August 2026)Select your prospective ICGEB laboratory and supervisor, then complete the basic information form. You must submit this to be considered for the next stage.
- Phase 2: Fellowship Full Application (16 – 30 September 2026)If selected by your prospective supervisor during the review phase, you will receive a notification to log back in and complete your full application.
