PhD Fellowships in Transcriptional Regulation, University of Copenhagen, Denmark

The University of Copenhagen has four campus areas. As distances in Copenhagen are relatively small, it is easy to get from one campus to the other either by bicycle or public transportation. The campus areas are integrated into the city of Copenhagen and students use the facilities available in the city, adding a lively buzz to the streets and cafés of Copenhagen.

PhD Fellowships in Transcriptional Regulation:
The University of Copenhagen is offering 2 or more PhD fellowships in transcriptional regulation at the DNRF Center of Excellence, Center for Gene Expression (CGEN). This opportunity is available within the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and aims to enhance understanding of gene expression processes.

Designation:

PhD Fellowships in Transcriptional Regulation

DetailInformation
Research AreaTranscriptional Regulation
LocationUniversity of Copenhagen, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Mærsk Tower, Panum Institute
Eligibility/QualificationMaster’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biomedicine, bioinformatics or similar fields. Must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree.
Duration3 years, following an initial 6-month appointment as a research assistant
Start DateMay 15, 2025, or soon thereafter

Description:

The CGEN center encourages young researchers to engage in innovative research focused on gene expression processes. The PhD candidates will work on independent research projects, contributing to understanding the mechanisms of gene transcription and translation. This will include questions about the relationship between mRNA processing, the role of RNA polymerase II, and the impacts of non-coding RNAs on translation.

During the first 6 months, candidates will formulate their PhD projects and familiarize themselves with ongoing research tasks. PhD students will also undertake required courses, engage in research environments, gain teaching experience, and complete a dissertation based on their projects.

How to Apply:

To apply, submit the following documents in PDF format through the university’s online application portal:

  1. Motivated letter of application (max. one page)
  2. CV detailing education, experience, skills, and language proficiency
