PhD in Applied and Computational Mathematics: The University of Bergen invites applications for a fully-funded PhD Research Fellow position in Applied and Computational Mathematics. The position is part of the Horizon Europe project RESCUER, aimed at enabling accurate and operational nearshore wave forecasting. The successful candidate will join an international and multi-disciplinary environment and work on cutting-edge research in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.

Eligibility/Qualification:
Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent education in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Civil Engineering with specialization in fluid dynamics, coastal engineering, and/or numerical analysis. Good knowledge in numerical mathematics for PDEs, fluid mechanics, and programming is advantageous. Proficiency in C, C++, Fortran, or Julia is also preferred. Applicants must be proficient in both written and oral English.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will work on the Horizon Europe project RESCUER, focusing on developing and implementing advanced numerical methods for accurate nearshore wave forecasting. The position involves participation in an approved educational program for a PhD degree within a period of 3 years, with opportunities for professional exchange, networking, and secondments at academic and industrial partner institutions.
