Job Description:
PhD in The Development of a New Multi-Modal Capability for Investigating Battery Material Interfaces and Microstructures
The project aims to develop strategies for investigating the degradation of interfaces and structural dynamics in advanced high-Ni NMC cathodes as they age. The project will heavily utilize a specialized characterization tool consisting of a Plasma Focused Ion Beam (PFIB) microscope equipped with airless transfer and cryogenic capabilities. The candidate will work on various aspects of the project, including the development of Time-of-Flight SIMS and quadrupole SIMS techniques to study solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layers. The candidate will also explore cryogenic SIMS analysis and assess the effects of ion species on battery interfaces.
Funding and Eligibility:
- The position is funded with the standard UKRI stipend for 4 years (currently £18,622).
- Funding is available for eligible Home fee status and UK domicile EU students.
