Description

The PhD fellowship at the University of Oslo is focused on exploring the mechanisms regulating gene expression across multiple layers, including DNA packaging, transcription initiation, and translation. This interdisciplinary project integrates computational biology with cutting-edge technologies like nanopore sequencing, Hi-C, ribosome profiling, and CAGE. The study aims to unravel biological processes that have significant implications for human health and disease.

The research will focus on two key scientific questions:

  1. How do 3D genome organization and enhancer-promoter spatial interactions (using Hi-C) inform transcription start site (TSS) usage?
  2. How does alternative promoter selection influence translation efficiency?

The position provides a chance to collaborate within the Bioinformatics in Life Sciences (BiLS) initiative, which connects the bioinformatics community and fosters innovation in systems biology.


Eligibility and Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, data science, or a related field.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing omics data analysis.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or C++.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and oral).

Desired Additional Skills:

  • Familiarity with statistical and machine learning techniques.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology or gene regulation.
  • Experience with advanced sequencing technologies (nanopore sequencing, Hi-C, ribosome profiling, or CAGE).
  • Skills in software development (e.g., Nextflow or Snakemake).
