Eligibility/Qualification: The successful candidate should have a successfully completed MSc degree in bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, applied mathematics, or a related field. Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python), experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis and comparative genomics, or a strong interest to develop it is required. Additionally, a strong affinity with the development of mathematical models and their application to genomic data, along with a proactive attitude, teamwork skills, and commitment to obtaining a PhD are essential. Proficiency in oral and written English is also required.
Job Description: The selected candidate will combine bioinformatics and modeling to understand the drivers of phage diversity across space and time. This will involve analyzing public phage genome and metagenome data to estimate phage diversity and formulating mathematical and computational models of phage evolution to explain observed patterns of diversity. The position is for four years and is embedded in two chair groups at Wageningen University: the Bioinformatics Group and the Laboratory of Genetics.
