Eligibility/Qualification

  • MSc in Biology, Genetics, Animal Breeding, Conservation Sciences, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
  • Good command-line skills and programming experience (Python or bash).
  • Experience with next- and third-generation sequencing technologies such as Illumina, PacBio, or Oxford Nanopore.
  • Ideally, background in pan-genomics of vertebrates (experience with Asian elephants is advantageous but not mandatory).
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Affinity for outreach activities and teamwork in an international multidisciplinary setting.

Job Description

  • Develop a high-quality reference genome for each Asian elephant population using nanopore technologies.
  • Explore structural genomic differences by creating a pan-genome graph.
  • Perform population genomics analyses to understand genetic loads from SNPs and Structural Variants.
  • Establish a decision-making framework for planned connectivity based on genomic information.
  • Author and co-author research manuscripts for publication in high-quality journals.
  • Support teaching within the department (10% of time).
  • Present research findings at various meetings and engage with non-academic stakeholders.
