PhD in Membrane Remodeling Research: A PhD student position is available at Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany, as part of an interdisciplinary project between the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology I and the Centre for Advanced Imaging (CAI). The selected candidate will investigate mitochondrial inner membrane remodeling using advanced imaging and gene-editing techniques.
PhD Student Position in Mitochondrial Inner Membrane Remodeling Research
Designation:
PhD Student Position
Research Area:
Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, and Advanced Imaging
Location:
Heinrich-Heine University Düsseldorf, Germany
Eligibility/Qualification:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biology, Chemistry, or related Natural Sciences fields
- Practical experience in laboratory work, including cell biology, biochemical, and molecular biology techniques
- Prior experience in confocal and advanced imaging, along with image analysis tools, is beneficial
- Strong proficiency in written and spoken English
- Passion for scientific research and motivation to work on a challenging and innovative project in an international team
Job Description:
The PhD candidate will investigate mechanisms regulating mitochondrial inner membrane remodeling in mammalian cell lines. Mitochondria are essential for cellular functions such as programmed cell death, calcium buffering, and ATP conversion. Understanding cristae membrane dynamics is crucial, as their dysfunction is linked to diseases like Parkinson’s, mitochondrial encephalopathy, optic atrophy, cardiomyopathy, and diabetes. The research will involve state-of-the-art super-resolution nanoscopy, confocal and electron microscopy/tomography, gene-editing, and biochemical techniques.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit a single PDF file containing:
- A brief cover letter
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Relevant academic transcripts
- Letter of motivation describing their interest in the project
Send the application via email to Dr. Arun Kumar Kondadi at kondadi@hhu.de, using the subject ‘Foko Application Kondadi’. For inquiries, candidates can also contact Dr. Arun Kumar Kondadi.
