PhD Scholarship Opportunity: Analysis of Microscopic BIOMedical Images (AMBIOM) at Leibniz-Institut für Analytische Wissenschaften – ISAS – e. V.

Designation: PHD CANDIDATE (M/F/D): Analysis of Microscopic BIOMedical Images (AMBIOM)

Research Area: Development of machine learning algorithms for microscopy image analysis problems, particularly intracellular structure segmentations in 2D/3D/4D microscopy images, driven by real applications in life science research.

Location: Dortmund, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s, Diploma, or equivalent degree in IT/computer science/statistics/applied mathematics/data science/biomedical engineering or relevant scientific field
  • Solid background in machine learning
  • Extensive experience with computer vision or image analysis
  • Good knowledge of deep learning packages, PyTorch
  • Familiarity with foundation models (vision large models or multi-modal large language models)
  • Familiarity with continuous integration, continuous development, and Github Actions
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written)
  • Publications at top-tier computer vision conference or journals is a plus
  • Experience with open-source software development is a plus

Job Description:

  • Develop new machine learning algorithms for microscopy image analysis problems
  • Integrate large foundation models into microscopy image analysis and analytical data analysis workflows
  • Implement AI-based microscopy image analysis software as python packages and napari plugins
  • Develop unit-testing tools for bioimaging AI software
  • Report findings and methods in conference and journal papers
  • Conduct software demo and tutorials at national and international workshops
