PhD Opportunities: The School of Law at University College Cork and Queen’s University Belfast are offering funded PhD opportunities in the field of “Cohesive and Ecologically Coherent EU-UK Fisheries Management After Brexit.” This project, known as CoCoMar, is a collaboration that aims to promote integrated marine governance around the island of Ireland. The current PhD project is focused on fisheries management post-Brexit and aims to ensure the sustainable management of fish stocks and marine ecosystems in line with the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) while addressing various regulatory and policy considerations. The project involves producing policy briefs, journal publications, and conducting research in collaboration with experts in the field.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- UK and ROI residents: Tuition fees plus stipend.
- EU and international students: Fees only up to the “home” fee rate included, plus stipend.
- Upper Second or First Class Honours degree in law or a relevant discipline, plus a Master’s degree with an average above 60%. Other qualifications will also be considered.
- Familiarity with transitional justice literature is desirable.
Job Description: The successful PhD researcher will investigate the potential for sustainable fisheries management and the protection of marine ecosystems in the context of post-Brexit fisheries aspects of the TCA. The research will involve examining the legal and policy landscape, utilizing local catch information and stakeholder engagement, and aligning national and intergovernmental legal and policy frameworks. The researcher is expected to lead the production of policy briefs and journal publications.
