Summary

The DARES group at the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences is seeking three highly motivated doctoral researchers to advance research in dependable automation, trustworthy artificial intelligence, resilient control, and cybersecurity. Successful candidates will contribute to national and European projects focused on safety-critical industrial cyber-physical systems.

Research Areas

Applicants may indicate one or more preferred areas in their cover letter:

  • Federated Learning and Trustworthy AI: Focus on privacy-preserving machine learning, explainable AI, distributed intelligence, and condition monitoring.
  • Resilient Control and Optimization: Research on advanced control and decision-making for adaptive operation of industrial and energy infrastructures.
  • Cybersecurity and Resilience: Research on secure automation, cyberattack detection/mitigation, and resilient system architectures for safety-critical systems.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Education: Must hold a Master’s degree in systems and control, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field at the time of application.
  • Background: Strong foundation in control systems, machine learning/AI, optimization, cyber-physical systems, or cybersecurity.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++).
  • Language: Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Additional Requirement: Must be able to obtain study rights within the doctoral program at Tampere University.

Job Description

Successful candidates will work within a multidisciplinary team to:

  • Conduct high-quality, original research.
  • Publish findings in leading international journals and present at conferences.
  • Participate in national and European research projects.
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners.
  • Optionally, conduct research visits to partner institutions.
