Scholarship Description:
PhD Opportunity: Quantum Magnetometry of Complex 2D Materials
This fully-funded PhD position at Heriot-Watt University focuses on applying a quantum single-spin sensor to study many-body correlated electrons in 2D heterostructures. Utilizing a unique quantum sensing facility, the project involves mapping magnetic fields with nanoscale diamond, using a single electron spin as a magnetic sensor. Gain expertise in quantum technology, condensed matter physics, and explore “beyond graphene” 2D materials, along with optical spectroscopy, microwave engineering, and nano-fabrication.
Eligibility:
- Open to candidates with a strong background or interest in quantum technology, condensed matter physics, and related fields.
- Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research.
- Eagerness to contribute to the exploration of “beyond graphene” 2D materials.
- Passion for learning and applying quantum sensing techniques.
Required Documents: Interested candidates are invited to submit the following documents:
- Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- Cover letter expressing motivation and interest in the research.
- Academic transcripts.
- Contact details for references.
