Research Area:
The research will focus on theoretical investigations and computer-aided modeling of novel materials, their physical properties, and components from the atomic to the molecular scale. The role involves using algorithms of machine learning, high-throughput quantum and classical simulations to explore the photonics, plasmonics, electronic, and mechanical properties of materials and nanostructures.

Location: University of Kassel, Germany

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Completed scientific university studies (Master’s degree) in Computational Materials, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent fields
  • Profound knowledge of quantum mechanical and classical material theory, e.g., density functional theory, molecular dynamics and electronic structure calculations
  • Excellent command of the English language
  • Practical and theoretical knowledge in simulating photonics and electronic components, optimization, and machine learning methods is advantageous
  • Familiarity with Python, LaTeX, Linux, and High-Performance Computing (HPC) environments is desirable
  • Initial teaching experience, preferably in Computational Physics, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering
  • Knowledge of the German language is advantageous

Job Description:

  • Engage in research and teaching activities within the domain of Computational Materials and Photonics
  • Prepare and conduct lectures, seminars, and exercises
  • Provide support in the application and execution of research projects
  • Mentor Bachelor’s and Master’s students
  • Conduct quantum to classical modeling and method development for novel monolayers and their applications in technological components
