PhD Opportunity in NLP at CIMAT: The NLP Research Group at CIMAT, Mexico, is looking for a motivated PhD candidate to join a pioneering project in computational methods for mental health. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. A. Pastor López and co-supervised by Dr. Esaú Villatoro from IDIAP Switzerland. This position, as part of the ORIENTER project, aims to explore AI and NLP for diagnosing and detecting mental health disorders through interdisciplinary research.

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, NLP, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and deep neural networks for vision, NLP, or related applications
  • Interest in computational methods for social sciences and mental health
  • Collaborative skills for working within interdisciplinary teams in Mexico and Switzerland

Job Description:
The PhD candidate will be part of the ORIENTER project, focused on advancing AI and NLP in mental health. Research will involve modeling psychological traits and behavior from multimodal data collected from clinical and digital communications. The position includes:

  • A fully funded scholarship via the CONAHCYT fellowship, providing a tax-free monthly stipend of approximately $1,000 USD
  • A minimum four-month research stay at IDIAP in Switzerland
  • Funding for attending at least one international conference
  • Access to cloud computing resources and potential for additional funding through grants
