Postdoc in Spain

PhD Opportunity: Migration Genomics: We are offering a PhD position focused on investigating the genomic and epigenomic underpinnings of migratory behavior in butterflies. The successful candidate will join a leading research center for biodiversity research in Catalonia, with a particular focus on evolutionary biology, ecology, and genomics.

PhD Opportunity: Butterfly Migration Genomics

Designation: PhD Candidate

Research Area: Investigating the genomic and epigenomic underpinnings of migratory behavior in butterflies, including the adaptation to migratory divides, seasonal shifts in movement direction, the evolution of sensory gene families, and epigenetic responses to rapid environmental stressors.

Location: Institut Botànic de Barcelona (IBB, CSIC-CMCNB), Spain

Eligibility/Qualification:

  • A Master’s degree related to Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Experience and knowledge in genomic data analysis, population genomics, evolutionary theory, and the use of computing clusters.

Job Description: The candidate will be involved in a combination of fieldwork, laboratory behavioral studies, and analysis of genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data. The PhD plan will be flexible and tailored alongside the selected candidate according to their interests. The research will include training in evolutionary genomics, animal behavior, and migration ecology.
