PhD Position: 2D Material: The University of Antwerp is offering a doctoral scholarship for a PhD researcher to develop and apply low-dose electron microscopy techniques for investigating two-dimensional material networks. The successful candidate will work within the Horizon Europe EIC Pathfinder project “HYPERSONIC” under the supervision of Prof. Sara Bals at the Electron Microscopy for Materials Science research group (EMAT).

Scholarship Description: The scholarship offers an exciting opportunity to engage in pioneering research using advanced electron microscopy techniques. The EMAT research group provides a stimulating, multidisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, including three aberration-corrected TEM instruments. The project aims to advance the understanding and application of graphene and other 2D materials in various technologies.

Eligibility:

  • Master’s degree in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated excellence in academic performance.
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for electron microscopy and quantitative data analysis.
  • High motivation, quality-oriented, conscientious, creative, and cooperative.
  • Good practical skills and affinity for experimental work.
  • Excellent research qualities aligning with the university’s policies.
