PhD Position: 2D Materials and Devices: The National Research Council of Spain (CSIC) is offering a funded PhD position within the ERC CoG 2023 project entitled “Thermal Modulators based on novel 2D MXene materials for nearly isothermal battery operation” (THERMO2DEAL). The position involves working with the 2D Foundry group at the Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM) at CSIC, under the supervision of Dr. Muñoz Rojo and enrollment in the PhD program at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). The successful candidate will focus on thermal and electrical characterization of 2D materials and devices based on them.
PhD Position – Thermal and Electrical Characterization of 2D Materials and Devices
Designation: Early Stage Researcher/PhD Student
Research Area: Thermal and Electrical Characterization of 2D Materials and Devices
Location: Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM), CSIC, and Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)
Eligibility/Qualification:
- MSc degree in Physics or Thermal/Electrical engineering
- Excellent knowledge of thermal transport, ideally at nano- and micro-scale
- Experience with experimental laboratory work, particularly in thermal characterization techniques
- Strong interest and established experience in thermal characterization, especially related to 2D materials
- Proficiency in English language, both verbal and written
Job Description:
The selected PhD student will use advanced thermometry techniques such as Time Domain Thermo-Reflectance, Scanning Thermal Microscopy, and thermal Bridge method to characterize 2D materials and thin films made of them. Additionally, they will explore the thermal properties of electrochemical devices based on these materials during operating conditions.
