PhD Position: Energy Evaluation: Wageningen University is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to contribute to the PPS-(TKI Agri & Food)-funded project ‘Stimulation of circular aquaculture: a novel method to evaluate energy of feed ingredients.’ The successful candidate will focus on investigating and comparing the energy metabolism of various carnivorous fish species, aiming to develop innovative energy evaluation systems for fish feeds. This project, in collaboration with Wageningen Research and industrial partners, addresses the crucial need for energy evaluation systems to facilitate the transition from linear to circular food production in aquaculture.

Eligibility/Qualification:
- MSc degree in aquaculture, biology, veterinary science, animal science, or a related field.
- Strong skills in nutritional studies, including digestibility and balance studies, with a focus on quantitative nutrition, preferably in fish.
- Experience in lab analysis, data handling, and statistical analysis.
- Willingness to conduct feeding trials with fish.
- Excellent English language proficiency (CEFR C2 level).
- Meet all entry requirements of the WUR PhD program.
Job Description:

The PhD candidate will:
- Experimentally study the energy metabolism of carnivorous fish species.
- Quantify the potential use of (digested) protein, fat, and different types of carbohydrates for energy gain.
- Develop novel energy evaluation systems for fish feeds, contributing to circularity in aquaculture.
- Collaborate with a consortium of academic and industrial partners.
- Conduct digestibility/balance trials, lab analysis, and statistical analysis of data.
- Complete the 4-year project by writing a comprehensive PhD thesis.
