Research Area

Eligibility/Qualification
General Requirements (for Umeå University admission):
- A completed second-cycle level degree, OR
- At least 240 credits of courses (with at least 60 credits at the second-cycle level), OR
- Equivalent education/qualifications.
- Specific Requirement: Completed courses of at least 120 credits within physics or a relevant related subject area. (Note: These requirements must be fulfilled at the time of admission, not necessarily at the time of application).
Desired Background:
- A Master’s degree in engineering physics, photonics, quantum, or a related field.
- Strong hands-on laboratory skills are essential for experimentation.
Meritorious Skills:
- Prior experience working with optical communication systems.
- Programming knowledge (e.g., LabView, C++, MATLAB) for experimental setups and data analysis.
- Understanding of semiconductor device technologies and system-level integration.
Job Description
As a PhD student, your core responsibilities will include:
- System Development: Developing and characterizing HCF-based optical systems targeting data rates beyond 200 Gbps for 6G and quantum transport.
- Technology Integration: Exploring the integration of HCF with modulators and Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (QPICs) for ultra-low-latency and low-dispersion communication systems.
- Collaboration: Working alongside partners at RISE, Umeå University, and leading Swedish industry players to design and test next-generation optical transceiver technologies and x-haul solutions.
- Dissemination: Publishing results in high-quality scientific venues, attending conferences, and engaging in public outreach.
- Academic Duties: Conducting independent research and participating in teaching and departmental activities.
